This course offers a comprehensive training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for individuals residing or working in non-urban or remote workplaces or communities, as well as outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Participants will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively plan, prevent injuries, and ensure personal safety in remote settings. The course also covers strategies for providing extended care in remote locations for a duration of up to 24 hours. The training takes place outdoors, requiring participants to engage in higher levels of physical activity and endurance compared to standard first aid courses.

Duration
20 hours of in class instruction (not including lunch breaks)
Mar 1 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Mar 2-3 8:30 am – 6:30 pm each day
Audience
Individuals who live or work in non-urban or remote workplaces or communities, or in a wilderness environment (2–3 hours from organized health care).
Prerequisites
Participant must be in good health and physical condition
Completion Criteria
- Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills
- Ability to complete a written, closed book, independently completed knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
- Must meet additional legislative requirements, if applicable
- Participants must attend and participate in 100% of the course
Certification
3-year certification in Remote First Aid & CPR C (digital certificate issued upon successful completion)
Recertification
- 8-10 hours of teaching time
- Proof of current Remote First Aid or Wilderness Remote First Aid certification (or as legislation dictates) required.
- Must have access to the most current CRC Remote First Aid participant materials

Please ensure your Remote First Aid recertification is completed by attending a comprehensive RFA course to refresh your skills. It is mandatory for participants to present a valid RFA certificate upon registration and attend the entire program offering.
Kindly note that participants will receive an updated Field Guide during their recertification course, as the Canadian Red Cross has made revisions to the participant Field Guide in 2020. Our aim is to provide you with the most current procedures and information.

Have you recently completed your Remote First Aid training within the last year and are looking to enhance your skills? The Wilderness First Aid Bridging Course is designed to provide you with an additional 20 hours of advanced training, enabling you to earn a full 40-hour Wilderness First Aid certificate that is valid for three years.
The course will focus on developing leadership skills, assessment, decision-making skills, and strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. The prevention, health, and wellness of the group will be a key focus. The training will take place in an outdoor setting and will require greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training. Additionally, we will cover basic shelter construction, which is not included in the certificate.

Audience
Designed for individuals who work in a wilderness setting (3 or more hours from organized health care) with challenging environments and/or varied risk levels and require skills to promote safety for themselves and peers (leading groups in a professional capacity). Suitable for those who wish to become professional guides, parks officials and/or work in fields such as recreation and ecotourism.
Prerequisites
Participants must be 16 years of age and in good health and physical condition along with hold a current and valid Remote First Aid certificate or recognized equivalency completed within the last 12 months.
Completion Criteria
- Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills
- Ability to complete a written, closed book knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
- Participants must attend and participate in 100% of the course
