RECERTIFICATIONS
Recertification courses are now available for Remote First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and Wilderness First Responder throughout BC, Alberta, and Ontario! Participants must provide a valid discipline-specific certificate to the office prior to their course.
Recertification Options:
REMOTE FIRST AID:
- Join any two-day + one-evening, 20-hour Remote First Aid (RFA) course to complete your recertification (purchased under the specific recertification link below).
- Alternatively, join a one-day RFA recertification course to complete your recertification. Currently not being offered.
WILDERNESS FIRST AID:
- Join any two-day, 20-hour, Wilderness First Aid recertification-specific course as listed below.
WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER:
- Join any five-day, 40-hour, Wilderness First Responder recertification-specific course as listed below.
Participants will receive an updated Field Guide during their recertification course. The Canadian Red Cross updated these guides in 2020, so if you were originally certified before this, you may prefer an updated guide.

Pre-requisites:
- All recertification participants must hold a current/valid certificate in the specific course they wish to recertify. See the homepage for each respective course’s content and details.
Completion Criteria:
- Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the required skills.
- Complete a written, closed-book knowledge evaluation independently with a minimum score of 75%.
- Attend and participate in 100% of the course.

Prevention, health and wellness of the group is a key focus. The course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training. We also add basic shelter construction that is not part of the certificate!

Participants will learn comprehensive first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, as well as skills required to plan, prevent injury and promote safety for themselves and peers while in a wilderness or remote workplace or community. Instruction will focus on developing leadership skills, assessment, decision-making skills, and strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. Prevention, health and wellness of the group is a key focus. The course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training. We also add basic shelter construction that is not part of the certificate!

Duration
20 hours of in class instruction (not including lunch breaks)
Day 1: 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Day 2 + 3: 8:30 am – 6:30 pm each day
Audience
Designed for individuals who work in a wilderness setting (3 or more hours from organized health care) with challenging environments and/or varied risk levels and require skills to promote safety for themselves and peers (leading groups in a professional capacity). Suitable for those who wish to become professional guides, parks officials and/or work in fields such as recreation and ecotourism.
Prerequisites
Participants must be 16 years of age and in good health and physical condition.
Completion Criteria
- Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills
- Ability to complete a written, closed book knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
- Participants must attend and participate in 100% of the course
Certification
3-year certification in Wilderness First Aid & CPR C + AED(digital certificate issued upon successful completion).
Recertification
- 20 hours of teaching time
- Proof of current recognized Wilderness First Aid or Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification (or as legislation dictates) required.
- Must have access to the most current CRC Wilderness First Aid participant materials

Do you offer Occupational First Aid level 1?
We offer Standard and Emergency First Aid training. These certifications are equivalent and recognized by WorkSafeBC, as Occupational Level 1. These certifications can be added onto any of our Wilderness Courses for an additional fee.
I want to take the 40 hour course, but I can only attend on weekends, what are my options?
If you are looking to obtain a 40 hour WFA Certificate, you can opt to take TWO weekend courses.
- Weekend 1: Remote First Aid (20 hours)
- Weekend 2: Remote to Wilderness First Aid Bridge (20 hours)
If you would like to take advantage of our package pricing, and save yourself $100, contact our office and we can give you this discount for pre-purchasing the two weekends at once!
What kind of first aid do I need to lead overnight trips?
We recommend holding a minimum of a 40 hour Wilderness First Aid Certification, when planning to take people out in the wilderness on an overnight journey.
