Course Overview:
This basic one-day Emergency First Aid course is designed to provide participants with essential lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. Ideal for the workplace or home, this course meets the legislative requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and follows the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.
Course Content:
- Introduction to the Red Cross:
- Overview of the Red Cross
- The role of a first aider
- Preparation and Response:
- Preparing to respond to emergencies
- Understanding and using the EMS system
- Check, Call, Care protocol
- Airway Emergencies:
- Recognition and response to airway obstructions
- Breathing and Circulation Emergencies:
- Identifying and managing breathing and circulation issues
- First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Wound Care:
- Basic wound care techniques
- Opioid poisoning awareness
- Additional content as required by specific legislation
Instructor:
A certified First Aid Instructor will lead the course, ensuring participants gain practical and theoretical knowledge to effectively handle emergencies.
Completion Requirements:
- Demonstrate required skills and critical steps successfully
- Achieve a minimum of 75% on the written knowledge evaluation
- Attend and actively participate in 100% of the course
Certification:
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a 3-year certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED Level C.
Recertification Options:
- CPR C: 5 hours in-class OR 4 hours in-class + 4 hours online learning
Note: Recertification is not available in all jurisdictions. Online learning time may vary depending on the learner.
