Course Overview
Prepare for emergencies with our Standard First Aid course, a comprehensive two-day program that provides essential lifesaving skills in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Whether for workplace requirements or personal preparedness, this course covers everything you need to know to respond effectively in emergencies.
This training adheres to the latest first aid and CPR guidelines and meets the legislative requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards. It is recognized as an Intermediate First Aid equivalency.
Completion Requirements
- Successfully demonstrate all required skills and critical steps.
- Actively participate in and attend 100% of the course.
- Achieve a minimum of 75% on the written, closed-book knowledge evaluation.
Certification
Participants will receive a 3-year certification in:
- Standard First Aid
- CPR C
- AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Responding to Emergencies

- Legalities and Duty to Act
- Occupational First Aid Attendant role
- Calling 911 and lowering infection risks
- Fundamental principles of first aid
Primary Assessment and Emergency Response:
- Check, Call, Care protocol
- Treating ill or injured persons
Airway Emergencies:
- Responding to choking (mild/severe, conscious/unconscious)
Breathing & Circulation Emergencies:
- Managing strokes, anaphylaxis, asthma, heart attacks, and cardiac arrest
- Performing CPR and using an AED
Wound Care:
- Treating external and internal bleeding, cuts, burns, flail chest, and punctures
Head, Neck, & Spinal Injuries:
- Spinal precautions and concussion management
Bone, Muscle, & Joint Injuries:
- Addressing fractures, sprains, dislocations, and using splints/slings
Sudden Medical Emergencies:
- Managing diabetic emergencies, seizures, and mental health crises
- Childbirth preparation
Environmental Illnesses:
- Treating hypothermia and hyperthermia
Poisoning:
- Responding to swallowed, inhaled, absorbed, or injected poisons
- Poisoning from drugs, alcohol, and bites/stings
