RECERTIFICATIONS
Recertification courses are now available for Remote First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and Wilderness First Responder throughout BC, Alberta, and Ontario! Participants must provide a valid discipline-specific certificate to the office prior to their course.
Recertification Options:
REMOTE FIRST AID:
- Join any two-day + one-evening, 20-hour Remote First Aid (RFA) course to complete your recertification (purchased under the specific recertification link below).
- Alternatively, join a one-day RFA recertification course to complete your recertification. Currently not being offered.
WILDERNESS FIRST AID:
- Join any two-day, 20-hour, Wilderness First Aid recertification-specific course as listed below.
WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER:
- Join any five-day, 40-hour, Wilderness First Responder recertification-specific course as listed below.
Participants will receive an updated Field Guide during their recertification course. The Canadian Red Cross updated these guides in 2020, so if you were originally certified before this, you may prefer an updated guide.

Pre-requisites:
- All recertification participants must hold a current/valid certificate in the specific course they wish to recertify. See the homepage for each respective course’s content and details.
Completion Criteria:
- Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the required skills.
- Complete a written, closed-book knowledge evaluation independently with a minimum score of 75%.
- Attend and participate in 100% of the course.

RECERTIFICATION ONLY – MUST HOLD CURRENT/VALID WFA CERTIFICATE
This recertification course is designed for participants to refresh their comprehensive first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, as well as the necessary abilities to plan, prevent injury, and promote safety in wilderness or remote work environments. The course emphasizes leadership development, assessment, decision-making, and providing extended care for up to 24 hours.
Prevention, health, and wellness for the group are a key focus, and the training is conducted primarily outdoors, offering a more active and realistic experience than typical first aid courses. As a bonus, participants will also learn basic shelter construction, though this is not part of the certification!
Course Details
- Duration: 20 hours of in-class instruction (not including lunch breaks)
- Friday: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
- Saturday/Sunday: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM
Audience
The course is designed for individuals working in wilderness or remote environments (3+ hours from organized health care), with challenging conditions and varying risk levels. It’s ideal for those responsible for promoting safety in a professional capacity, such as guides, park officials, and those in recreation or ecotourism.

- Participants must be 16 years of age, in good health, and hold a current/valid WFA certificate.

RECERTIFICATION ONLY – MUST HOLD CURRENT/VALID WFR CERTIFICATE.
Participants in the Wilderness First Responder Recertification (WFR) course will refresh their advanced first aid and CPR skills essential for responding to emergencies in remote or wilderness settings. This course focuses on urgent evacuation and extended care for five or more days until professional medical help is available. You will also sharpen your leadership, rescue decision-making, and extrication skills, as well as the use of professional tools and resources.
A large part of the training takes place outdoors, providing a realistic learning environment. Be prepared for physical activity and endurance training beyond that of typical first aid courses.
Course Details
- Duration: 40 hours
- November 14: 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM (however, we do recommend you come out for this entire day to “refresh any skills”. If you wish to take advantage of that, please come out 830 am – 6pm.)
- November 15+16: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM
- November 17-18: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM (2 hour dinner break for all participants before we head into overnight scenarios) 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM – course officially ends at 8:00 AM on August 10th.
- Audience:

Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:
- 3-year recertification in Wilderness First Responder
- 1-year certification in Basic Life Support (digital certificate provided)
Completion Criteria
To recertify, you must:
- Successfully demonstrate all required skills
- Complete a written, closed-book evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
- Attend and participate in 100% of the course
- Meet any additional legislative requirements, if applicable

What levels of First Aid do you offer?
We offer the following courses publicly:
- Remote First Aid
- Wilderness First Aid
- Wilderness First Responder
- Wilderness First Aid Instructor
- OFA 1 Equivalency (SFA Certification)
We also offer recertification courses for all of the above.
In addition, we offer the following for private courses:
- Standard First Aid
- Emergency First Aid
- Transportation Endorsement
- Marine First Aid
- OFA 1 Equivalency
Do you offer Occupational First Aid level 1?
We offer Standard and Emergency First Aid training. These certifications are equivalent and recognized by WorkSafeBC, as Occupational Level 1. These certifications can be added onto any of our Wilderness Courses for an additional fee.
I want to take the 40 hour course, but I can only attend on weekends, what are my options?
If you are looking to obtain a 40 hour WFA Certificate, you can opt to take TWO weekend courses.
- Weekend 1: Remote First Aid (20 hours)
- Weekend 2: Remote to Wilderness First Aid Bridge (20 hours)
If you would like to take advantage of our package pricing, and save yourself $100, contact our office and we can give you this discount for pre-purchasing the two weekends at once!
What kind of first aid do I need to lead overnight trips?
We recommend holding a minimum of a 40 hour Wilderness First Aid Certification, when planning to take people out in the wilderness on an overnight journey.
